What is the Short-Term Visitor’s Visa?

The Short-Term Visitor’s Visa is for international travellers who want to visit South Africa temporarily. Typically valid for 90 days, this visa can be extended for an additional 90 days, provided you apply at least 60 days before the initial visa expires and meet all requirements.

Eligibility and Requirements

General Visitor’s Visa

  • Duration: Valid for up to 3 months, with the possibility of extending for another 3 months.
  • Extension Timing: Apply at least 60 days before your current visa expires to secure an extension.

For Spouse or Life Partner of a South African Citizen/Resident

  • Visa Type: Visitor’s Visa Section 11(6), allowing work, study, or business activities.
  • Restrictions: Only available for spouses or life partners of South African citizens or residents; it’s not applicable for other family members (e.g., parents, siblings).

Extended Visitor’s Visa (for Research or Sabbaticals)

  • Duration: Valid for up to 3 years.
  • Requirements:
    • Proof of financial self-sufficiency or sponsorship.
    • Description of proposed activities in South Africa.
    • Supporting documentation from any affiliated South African organisation.

Application Process

To apply for a Short-Term Visitor’s Visa, you will need the following:

  1. A completed visa application form.
  2. A passport valid for at least 30 days beyond your intended stay.
  3. Proof of sufficient funds or a sponsorship letter.
