EXCHANGE WORK VISA (<25 YEARS)

What is it?

The exchange work visa is issued to foreigners under the age of 25 who have received an offer to work in South Africa. This visa is issued once-off for a period of 12 months and cannot be renewed or extended.

Requirements

  • The applicant must be under the age of 25 at the time of application
  • The employer must pay the foreigner remuneration which complies with applicable legal requirements and provide for the welfare and the needs of the foreigner while in South Africa
  • The applicant must have proof of medical cover for the duration of the exchange period with a medical scheme registered in terms of the Medical Schemes Act.

Good to know

  • The foreigner may not qualify for a permanent residence permit within two years after the expiry of the exchange work visa. This requirement can be waived by the Director-General in extraordinary circumstances.
